WordPress design and development agency Computer Courage has launched a custom installation for top-ranked law school, UC Berkeley School of Law. The previous site was built on an outdated proprietary system with limited functionality and integration option. The new site features a modern responsive design, a custom WordPress dashboard, and integration with the University single sign-on system.
WordPress was selected as the development platform for its intuitive interface, open source licensing, extensibility, and the widespread familiarity among users.
Computer Courage worked with the UC Berkeley School of Law to create a multi-phase launch plan to move the content of the site to WordPress, and then later to implement the new design. “Computer Courage was a great help here. They laid out a road map that offered minimal disruption to our users”, said Michael Bazeley, Director of Communications.
One of the biggest challenges was finding a strategy to make the thousands of content pieces easy to create, manage, and locate. Computer Courage developed custom post types for articles, press releases, commentaries and media. A “Content Lookup” function was developed within the WordPress dashboard to allow filtering of the content by type, ID, author, published date, and modified date.
For simplicity, Computer Courage built an integration between the WordPress user login system and the Berkeley Law CalNet ID system. Users can login directly to WordPress using their secure CalNet IDs.
“Computer Courage took our vision and helped us realize it. Although WordPress is a great tool out of the box, we had many custom requirements for our new CMS. Computer Courage listened to what we wanted, and then customized WordPress so it could become the tool we needed. Indeed, we now have more functionality that we initially envisioned,” said Michael Bazeley, Director of Communications.
